WHITBARROW & STAVELEY FELL - Wainwright's Outlying Fells explored by an Old Timer!

Wainwright did say the Outlying Fells were for ‘old-timers’ so I guess I now qualify! On today’s walk I tackle Whitbarrow, a fell unlike most others due to being made of limestone. The walk is more like the Yorkshire Dales than the Lake District. It's an interesting walk though initially through woodland and then on a wide open top to reach the splendid summit cairn. After Whitbarrow I bagged the nearby Staveley Fell which was a little disappointing the way I did it but with a splendid view of Windermere from the top.
