When betting in a game of Texas Hold'em there are five actions you can take. These actions include: fold bet check call raise I will explain each of these actions along with how to use them. During the game, betting can only occur post-flop, on the flop, turn or river. You only have the option to bet when you’re first to act post-flop, or when the opponent checks. Once someone has already bet, you have the option of folding, calling or raising. It is important to always state your bet. If you fail to do so, you will not be able to change the number of chips you place in the pot. Remember, in poker, the first action is the binding action. Why bet? There are many reasons to bet in the game of poker! You bet to protect your hand, to convey that your hand is stronger than your opponents, and to bluff! When you are feeling confident, you can raise the bet. This can be done after a player has already placed their bet.
