Suzanne Frölén - Nån Försa’ Sig (Swedish Version of ”Careless Whisper”) - 1984 Single B-side, Mercury - 880 484-7, Sweden, 1984 To celebrate the 40th anniversary of Wham!, here’s a very rare Swedish cover of the immortal classic and world wide smash hit “Careless Whisper”. Originally written by George Michael & Andrew Ridgeley, performed by George Michael (in some territories credited to Wham! Feat. George Michael) and released in 1984. Swedish lyrics by Olle Bergman, a k a Bobson. It sure takes guts to take on this soaring ballad, but young singer Suzanne Frölén accepted the challenge. Being only 16 years at the time Suzanne was certainly not a rookie in the recording studio or in the music business. In 1981, as part of the barbershop girl group Growing Girls, she had recorded an album containing covers of for example ABBA, The Nolans and Manhattan Transfer with an impressive line up of Swedish studio musicians. (You’ll find some of these tracks here on my channel). For some reason, “Nån Försa’ Sig” was surpassed to the B-side of this single containing her Swedish rendition of “Only He”, one of the showstoppers from Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical “Starlight Express”, in Swedish called “Bara Han”. The single was distributed to radio stations, but both tracks failed to get any decent airplay and the single was nowhere to be seen in any charts and is now almost as rare as hens teeth. Suzanne released a handful of singles around 1984-1985 including her entry to Melodifestivalen 1985, “Vänner”, which failed to pass through the final round in the Swedish selections for Eurovision Song Contest. However, Suzanne's musical career continued together with her friends from Growing Girls, singing at festivals and more. Today she lives in Sweden, south of Stockholm.
