Review: Erich Kleibers Really, Finally, Totally, Theoretically Complete Decca Recordings--Allegedly.
There have been so many partial Erich Kleiber Decca boxed sets (at least two others in the past couple of decades) that this latest, allegedly complete one, inspires as much exasperation as it does gratitude. Nevertheless, he was a great conductor, and for his Beethoven symphonies and the two complete operas (Mozart's Marriage of Figaro and Strauss' Der Rosenkavalier) his recordings are essential. So if you don't know these performances, get this release, but let's hope this truly is the last reissue this century.
