90 Seconds of Leon Rhodes Melodic Brilliance
If you are familiar with Leon Rhodes you know that he can tear up the fretboard along with the best of them in the often instrumental showcases of incredible talent that he played with the Texas Troubadours, Ernest Tubb's terrific backing band. Another side of Leon's playing however is this simplistic melodic style that is highlighted in this performance of "There’s No Room In My Heart (For The Blues)". His variations on the songs melody using chord tones, pentatonic and major scales as well as some tasteful chromatic leading tones are the foundations of country lead guitar and soloing in general. If you can play simple melodies and make them sound good, you're pretty accomplished in my book.
