Ruto and Sang case: Press conference, 9 September 2013 -- PART 1

For more information: http://www.icc-cpi.int PART 1 A Press Conference was held on 9 September 2013, regarding the trial in the case The Prosecutor v. William Samoei Ruto and Joshua Arap Sang, which is scheduled to start on 10 September at the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague, Netherlands. The ICC Registrar, Herman von Hebel, opened the Press Conference and answered journalists' questions. The ICC Prosecutor, Fatou Bensouda, the Defence Counsel for William Samoei Ruto, Karim Khan, the Defence Counsel for Joshua Arap Sang, Joseph Kipchumba Kigen-Katwa, and the Legal Representative of the Victims, Wilfred Nderitu, made short statements and also answered journalists' questions. The trial in the case of The Prosecutor v. William Samoei Ruto and Joshua Arap Sang is scheduled to open tomorrow, 10 September 2013, at 09:30 in the presence of the accused. Mr Ruto and Mr Sang are accused of crimes against humanity (murder, deportation or forcible transfer of population and persecution) allegedly committed in Kenya in the context of the 2007-2008 post-election violence. The trial will be held before Trial Chamber V(a) composed of Judge Chile Eboe-Osuji (presiding), Judge Olga Herrera Carbuccia and Judge Robert Fremr.
