Edwardian Britain: Workers, Suffragettes and the Road to War | FULL DOCUMENTARY

Edwardian Britain was a society on the move. New technology, mass entertainment and growing political activism were reshaping everyday life, while millions of ordinary people began demanding a greater voice in the country they helped build. Rare colourised footage captures packed football grounds in Burnley, civic celebrations in Wigan, charity events in Tynemouth, and workers taking to the streets during a wave of strikes that swept Britain and Ireland. As debates over Home Rule intensified, tensions spread from factories and picket lines into national politics. Women were pushing for change too. From the campaigns of Emmeline Pankhurst and the WSPU to the actions of Emily Wilding Davison at the 1913 Epsom Derby, the struggle for women's suffrage became one of the defining movements of the age. Then, in 1914, war arrived. As volunteers marched off to fight, the optimism of the Edwardian era gave way to a conflict that would transform Britain forever. Watch and discover the people behind this remarkable period of change.
