If you haven't already decided I can recommend the guides on the Kennel Club website and the PDSA website. http://www.thekennelclub.org.uk/servi... https://www.pdsa.org.uk/taking-care-o... 2) If you decide on a pedigree breed, check the Kennel Club website for a list of breeders and litters available in your area. http://www.thekennelclub.org.uk/servi... 3) If you want a cross-breed or ‘designer dog’ still check to see if they have a club or association with registered breeders. Again, this is no guarantee of quality but the breed club may well perform some checks. For example, the Cockerpoos have http://www.cockapooclubgb.co.uk/ccgb-... 4) Don’t forget to check with your local practice to see if they can recommend any local breeders and also with your local rescue kennels, who will occasionally have litters available. 5) Look at adverts on the internet but be prepared to shift through them to find a good breeder! 6) Find a litter who are younger than 8 weeks old and whose breeder is prepared to let you visit them in their home. 7) Make SURE you see the bitch. This means viewing the puppies no later than 6 weeks (ideally 4 weeks) so you can see her interacting them and looking after them. 8) Ask the breeder LOTS of questions. You need to know about pre-breeding health testing, the stud dog used, the worming and flea treatment they have had, the diet they have been weaned on, any visits to the vets and the breeder’s after sales policy. Good ones will be available for questions long after you have bought the pup and may even accept returns if there is a problem. 9) GO HOME!! Any seller who is happy to let you walk away there and then with a puppy is likely to be a puppy farmer, trader or an irresponsible breeder. 10) Consider your decision. Do you trust this person? Are you sure this isn’t a puppy farm pup? Can you really take on a dog in your life? 11) Once you have found your perfect puppy and you are happy they have been carefully and responsibly bred to give you the best chance of having a friend for life, then go and get them! **Remember - from April 2016, all puppies must be microchipped by eight weeks old, so they should come from the breeder already done.**
