What did Edwardian Women ACTUALLY Wear? | Unboxing 100 Years Old Clothes
Hello everyone and welcome to a new video! This was filmed a little while back. All the planets aligned in some sort of cosmical order and I managed to snag a few amazing deals on antique clothing across different platforms. These were all things that were on sale, and for different reasons not museum-worthy (but so so precious to me!). They are all small items in different states of wear. The first is an early Edwardian walking suit. It is very small and made of wool and silk. The bodice is absolutely gorgeous, but the silk sections have deteriorated quite badly, while the wool has held up valiantly. The skirt has beautifully wide hem, which would allow that Edwardian swoop. The shawl I think might be from the 1850s or 1860s, as it was common for shawls to be massive to drape over crinoline-style skirts. BUT I am not an expert so I am a little hesitant to put a date on it. I intend on mending it as best as I can and treasure it. The black bodice seems to be a little later in the Edwardian period, but I thought it was in fabulous condition. I definitely think it's either a home-made item or mass-produced, and it is not a particularly decadent design, but I still found it very pretty. I think I'd love to try to recreate this style of bodice, with the pleats and the sleeves. Lastly, the lingerie dress is gorgeous and beautiful and perfect and I love it. Lingerie dresses were very popular across a few specific years between 1900-1910, and they were often very lightweight and delicate, so I am really impressed this has survived so well. It is very small, which means whoever owned it was unable to remake it or pass it on as was common at the time.
