May Festival in Wattens Delights Young and Old (Video: Reinhard Rovara © 2026) Tradition, Music, and Community Take Center Stage Wattens (rr) – A thoroughly successful May Festival attracted numerous visitors and was all about tradition and community. The Wattens Folklore Group, the Edelweiss Traditional Costume Association, and the Wattens Young Farmers/Rural Youth Association were responsible for organizing the event. Festive Opening In glorious weather, the festival began at 10 a.m. with a festive open-air mass, followed by a tractor blessing. Numerous visitors participated in this atmospheric opening ceremony. Music and Culinary Delights "Zammgwürfelter Haufen" provided excellent entertainment during the morning gathering. In the afternoon, "Die Gletscherpiraten" took over and kept the festive atmosphere going. A wide variety of culinary offerings was also available. Chicken and schnitzel were in high demand. Young Talent Impresses the Audience The Edelweiss Traditional Costume Association used the stage to showcase its talented young members. With traditional dances and Schuhplattler (a traditional Bavarian folk dance), the young members delighted the numerous guests. Attractions for children A bouncy castle and an arts and crafts stand were available for the youngest visitors, which were very popular and brought much joy. Maypole for a good cause Another highlight was the auction of the maypole to benefit youth programs. The community expressed its gratitude that dedicated clubs maintain this valuable tradition. Especially in a time when opportunities for personal encounters are becoming rarer, such festivals are invaluable for community spirit.
