Neumann U87 vs Shure SM7B. Is There A £1500 Difference In The Sound On Vocals??

Here I record a vocal through a vintage Neumann U87 and a Shure SM7B to see if there really is a massive difference in the sound. The vocal was recorded through both microphones simultaneously, and went through an Audient iD44 interface on the way into Logic. The Neumann U87 is a classic vocal microphone used on countless recordings. It has three polar patterns, Cardioid, Omni and Fig-8, which means it is useful in many recording applications other than a solo vocal. The Shure SM7B is another classic microphone used widely across vocal and voice applications, anywhere from a screaming metal vocalist, to a breakfast show presenter on local radio. A vintage Neumann U87, in this instance made in 1977, will set you back anywhere in the region of £1500-£2000 depending on condition and heritage, whereas the Shure SM7B can be picked up new for around £330-£360. Is there a difference in sound equal to that of the pricetags? I'll let you decide.
