Exploring Jaywick. Britain’s Most Deprived Town

In this video, I travel to Jaywick in Essex, widely known as the most deprived town in the UK, to see what life is really like on the ground. From the outside, Jaywick has a reputation for poverty, crime, and neglect — but is it really as bad as people say? I explore the beach, visit a local social club, and step inside a run-down arcade that feels frozen in time. Walking through the streets, I take a closer look at the town’s chalet-style homes, many of which are in serious disrepair. Things take a darker turn when I enter an abandoned house that had been used as a crack den, documenting the damage left behind and giving a raw, unfiltered look inside. I also uncover a piece of history by visiting a hidden WW2 pillbox, showing a different side to Jaywick that many people overlook. Despite everything, the biggest surprise was the people — many locals I met were friendly, welcoming, and proud of their community. This is a real, on-the-ground look at one of Britain’s most talked-about places.
