AM2S - Section A2-A6: Part 1 Cables: Data Cable

In this training video, we demonstrate the correct installation, termination, and testing of a data cable in accordance with BS 7671 requirements, including the correct method of routing data cabling through three-compartment trunking alongside mains cables. The video begins by explaining the importance of maintaining segregation between data and power circuits. You'll see how a data bridge is used to safely cross a mains compartment while maintaining compliance with BS 7671 and protecting the integrity of the data cable. We then move on to the practical installation of a data outlet, covering: Stripping the outer sheath of a data cable correctly without damaging the conductors. Identifying the four twisted pairs and understanding the colour coding. Positioning the cable and securing the outer sheath using the correct cable support. Maintaining the twist of each pair as close as possible to the termination point to help preserve network performance. Terminating each conductor into the data module using an insulation displacement (IDC) tool. Good cable dressing and termination techniques. Finally, the video demonstrates how to test the completed installation using a data cable tester. We explain how the tester works, what the different fault indications mean, and how to verify that all eight conductors have been terminated correctly and the installation is operating as intended. Whether you're an electrical apprentice, student, or qualified electrician looking to develop your data installation skills, this video provides a clear, step-by-step guide to good installation practice. ⚠️ Practical demonstrations shown in this video were filmed in a teaching environment. Always wear appropriate PPE and follow current health and safety procedures when working in a live workshop or on-site. #BS7671 #DataCabling #Networking #ElectricalInstallation #Electrician #ElectricalTraining #ApprenticeElectrician #CityAndGuilds #AM2 #Containment #StructuredCabling #RJ45 #Testing #ElectricalEngineering
