Oil palms are a type of plantation crop that produces edible oil, industrial oil, and biodiesel fuel. Palm oil produces products that can be marketed internationally, one of which is Crude Palm Oil (CPO). The importance of palm oil in the national economy has led many countries to increase palm oil plantation production. Since 2006, Indonesia has become the world's largest palm oil producer, surpassing Malaysia. In fact, the area of ​​oil palm plantations in Indonesia has shown an increasing trend from 2017 to 2021. The Ministry of Agriculture recorded that in 2021, the area of ​​palm oil plantations reached 15.08 million hectares. However, perhaps we shouldn't be so proud, as the majority of oil palm plantations are owned by Singapore and Malaysia. According to the Ministry of Agriculture, oil palm plantations are privately owned, accounting for 55.8%, or 8.42 million hectares. The remainder is owned by smallholders (40.34%) or 6.08 million hectares, and only 3.84%, or 579.6 thousand hectares, are owned by large state-owned plantations.
