How To Fix Laser Printer Multicolor Lines for Free (HP LaserJet 500 M551)

This is a possible solution for fixing the hideous multicolor lines in your laser printer. It may not fix every printer, but it's a worthy thing to try before purchasing any equipment. While this printer doesn't do everything I'd like out of a printer (duplexing, scanning, faxing), I can't bring myself to buying a new laser printer, since this one works and was free. Bonus points for the wide array of inexpensive aftermarket toner cartridges.
