Soprano Practice Notes The first choral entrance must grow from the solo atmosphere. Match the soloist's vowel color and enter with a clear, supported D5 rather than a sudden block of sound. In Requiem aeternam, the line rises through F5, G5, and A5. Keep the phrase moving through aeternam so the A5 remains part of the line. Release the upper pitch instead of pressing it, then land the following C-sharp5 accurately. Et lux perpetua contains repeated patterns and a descent into the lower middle register. Keep the upper notes bright and connected, then carry the tone down toward D4 without dragging chest weight into the phrase. The soprano fugue subject enters after Bass and Alto. Match their rhythmic character, but do not copy extra weight. Save energy for the long sequence of entries and keep the sixteenth-note movement clear, light, and precisely subdivided. The late fugue rises through G5 and A5 to B-flat5 during aeternum. Let the vowel open naturally with the pitch. Do not hold one rigid vowel shape or treat the B-flat5 as a separate climax. The passage must remain one moving coloratura line. On sanctis, place [ŋk] cleanly without adding a vowel. Keep both vowels of tuis distinct, and direct aeternum toward the stressed syllable. After the fugue, return immediately to the calm Adagio character. Keep the pitch centered through the final ritardando and release the last vowel with the choir.
