Demons 2 is a Remarkably Entertaining Disaster
Lamberto Bava's Demons is one of my favorite Italian horror films. His 1986 follow up, Demons 2...not so much. A new group of human spam encounters the demonic menace in this sequel -- which sees Ripper and Bobby Rhodes return from the original film as entirely new characters! Filled with so many characters you'll need a scorecard to keep track of them all (including Asia Argento in her big screen debut), short on narrative logic, but entertaining almost in spite of itself, Demons 2 pales in comparison to its inspiration -- but you'll have fun with it anyway. Written by Dario Argento, Lamberto Bava, Franco Ferrini, and Dardano Sacchetti and featuring effect work from Sergio Stivaletti and Rosario Prestopinon, Demons 2 isn't as good as its pedigree would suggest -- but is it a pleasant reminder of the heyday of spaghetti splatter - a time when gory horror flicks ruled the video store.
