Auchi Polytechnic in Nigeria: Entrepreneurship Development through Higher Education

This video is part of a series promoting best practices for training and employment of young people in Africa. Auchi Polytehnic in Edo State is one out of many polytechnics in Nigeria that graduates about thirty thousand students every year. For several years now, Auchi Polytechnic has been named the best polytehnic in Nigeria and in 2012, the international ranking agency of world tertiary institutions webometrics declared Auchi the best polytechnic in West Africa and the second best in Africa. Auchi Polytechnic has established what is known as the CEDAP village, Centre for Entrepreneurship Development - where students are equipped with quality life skills such as fish farming, carpentry, soap making, shoe making, tye and dye and pottery amongst others. It is also spearheading a new approach to delivering Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) through the Flexible Skills Development programme, an initiative of the Commonwealth of Learning.
