An Introduction to the Life and Philosophy of Baruch Spinoza with Mary Peterson Ph.D. (ABD).
The Following video is a continuation of my series on Classical German philosophy. On this episode of the Young Idealist, I am joined by Mary Peterson who is a PhD student in philosophy at the University of Hamburg. Spinoza's philosophy has been an important influence on many thinkers of the German Philosophical tradition, and as a result of this popularity Spinoza's philosophy has had both a negative and positive repercussion on the tradition. Due to the immense influence and complexity of both Spinoza and his philosophy, one could not have a serious historical outline of classical German philosophy or contemporary thought without bringing up the name Baruch Spinoza. Mary Peterson Ph.D (ABD), helps break down these intricate events and complex philosophical concepts, leading the viewer into the rich philosophical world of Baruch Spinoza (1632-1677). Mary Peterson is a PhD student in philosophy at the University of Hamburg. Her dissertation is titled “The Metaphysics of Will in Hobbes and Spinoza.” Earlier this year, Mary was a visiting researcher in the philosophy department at Yale. She has an article forthcoming on Spinozist freedom in Clarice Lispector’s novel Near to the Wild Heart. Mary also does public-facing work on sexual misconduct in academia. https://marypetersonphilosophy.weebly... (Important Notice) My Internet was a little unstable during the recording of this Episode, the screen in the video freezes 2 or 3 times but the dialogue continues. I apologize to my fellow viewers and to Mary for any inconvenience.
