Ultimately, it still falls short of combining the two into one... I thought about it and realized. This isn't a device that combines a smartphone and a tablet. It's a smartphone with a huge screen that folds for portability. Thinking about it that way, the purpose became clearer, and my satisfaction skyrocketed. I'm not saying something as obvious as "Half empty?" It's just that you need to be clear about what you're going to use it for before purchasing. If you think a large smartphone is easy to carry, it's very satisfying, but if you think of it as a smartphone and tablet combination, it's kind of in-between.
