Retour en 1916
This site is an important strategic position; this ridge, which stretches north of Vieil Armand, controls the passage between the Thur Valley and the Guebwiller Valley. The French and Germans engaged in fierce clashes on this summit of the Vosges Mountains. However, neither armies managed to hold their positions until the end of the First World War. On the German side, the pioneers built several strongpoints, labeled "SP" (Stützpunkt) on the map. They were installed from the bottom of the mountain to the top. In this report, you will discover only a small part of the countless galleries and bunkers built mainly from 1916 to 1918. #backrooms #blockhaus #bunker #military #battle #ww1 #festung #stutzpunkt
