'The Giver' Turns 25 – But Remains Beloved

It’s been 25 years since the Newbury Medal-winning dystopian novel The Giver first came out. It tells the tale of a young boy named Jonas living in a futuristic society that has eliminated all pain, fear, war, and hatred – but also choice, individuality, and the joys that can come from human emotion. The book has been named one of America's 100 best-loved novels by PBS's The Great American Read. Jim Braude was joined by Lois Lowry to discuss the novel’s enduring resonance with readers young and old.
