Inspecting Trailer Leaf Springs on an Ifor williams trailer https://www.towingandtrailers.com/ Leaf springs are not used often on trailers manufactured in the UK although Agricultural trailers and Ifor williams us them. There have moving parts that can wear and break it is good practice to check them as they can cause the trailer to collapse and can also cause wear to tyres. This is a simple video that shows how to service , Inspect trailer leaf springs. the trailer in the video is an Ifor williams, the leaf springs can vary by manufacturer. Some springs have different amounts of leafs and can also mount on a pivoting bracket at the rear. The play demonstrated on the front of this leaf is acceptable as the bush is rubber mounted allowing it to move a little when a bush is worn out you will get more movement and a banging / metal to metal noise. If a leaf spring has a lot of play it is often visible where the brackets are polished as the spring has been moving around so much. Some other leaf springs do not have a bush in the spring like this and rely on a bolt only these bolts can wear we have even seen them wear the bolt half way through this can cause them to snap releasing the axle.
