Marc Behrens - Mobilization of Ecstasy (2009)

A kind of ecstasy is supposed to be achieved through prayer and devotion to Allah. The believers are called into the mosque by the muezzin, where they ideally lift their lives from mere existence to spiritual fulfilment. But the one who has a priviledged position to reach a state of ecstasy by deep breathing and thereby changing his brain chemistry in order to realize the calls to prayer (Ezan), is the muezzin himself. In January 2009 I drifted through Istanbul in an altered state of consciousness influenced by Malaria prophylactics, due to an earlier trip to the Amazon rainforest. The hammering craftsmen in the hidden alleys and backyards of the Grand Bazaar, and the horse stables of Büyükada island were profound sonic impressions, equal to listening to the prayer calls at sunrise. Can the craftsman mobilize ecstasy in his repetitive work? Can the horse mobilize it by being attached to its companions? released May 1, 2016 Composed in 2009.
