"Keeping the Oldies & Classics Alive" To view all my music videos click here:    / billsharkey   "Another Saturday Night," written by Sam Cooke, was Cooke's 20th top 40 hit rising to no. 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1963, and Cat Stevens' version rose to the no. 6 position in 1974 on the chart (Whitburn, 2013). "Cooke wrote this when he was touring England in 1962 with Little Richard . . . This was the first song Cooke released after the tragic drowning death of his son Vincent, who was 18 months old" (songfacts, 2026). "On 11 December 1964, at the Hacienda Motel in South Central, Los Angeles, he was shot and tragically killed. He was just 33 years old" (D. Biggane, vintagerockmag, Jan. 14, 2025). What is interesting about Cat Stevens' version of the song is that it and "Morning Has Broken" were his two highest charting singles (both landing at the no. 6 position on the Billboard chart), neither one was written by Stevens (Whitburn, 2013).
