Tee: Ungewöhnliche Plantage in Deutschland | Quarks

Tea grown in Germany, is that even possible? Quarks visited a couple near Cologne who grow their own tea. They've been running their own tea garden with home-harvested tea for almost 20 years. This year, they're testing the fall harvest and are also preparing tea cuttings that will be used to propagate the best tea plants next year. Because not all teas are created equal; depending on the quality, time of harvest, and plant, tea tastes differently. The couple are particularly careful to keep the bitterness in the tea to a minimum. They've already harvested 8 kilos of tea this year, too little to make money from it. The tea garden is pure passion for them, and they want to show themselves and other tea lovers that "tea made in Germany" is entirely possible.
