How to Identify Edible Fern? - Six Varieties of Common Ferns - Pako

There are many kind of ferns we can find in the jungle, but only few of them are edible. In this video, I'm sharing six kind of ferns including their local names. Among six varieties, the edible is only one. These ferns are common and often growing together in one place. You must cautious on getting ferns to avoid health issues. The other varieties can cause Loose Bowel Movement (LBM) specially the number 2. In order to know which is edible, you must look its shoot, leaves, stalk, and base in order to find the difference. The number one is the only edible. If you can identify them by looking directly on their shoots, then it's better. But if you can't, just go to their mature leaves. The leaves of edible fern are attached on its little branches. The number 4, 3, and 2 are attached on their main stem, so they're inedible. The number 6 and 5 are also having branches but their leaves are too small and having a subterranean vine. You must know that the fronds of this edible fern are coming from its base forming a colony like a flower vase. Making branch once before producing leaves (leaflet). These difference are applicable only to those old growing ferns. You must remember that this edible fern are having two kinds of frond. At first, its leaflets are attached on midrib just like other ferns and changing easily as it grow older. Fiddlehead fern also refer to this vegetable fern with a binomial name "Diplazium Esculentum".
