Surrounded by green slopes, forests, traditional Alpine chalets, and meadows with cows, Iseltwald feels like time has stopped, allowing you to fully enjoy the harmony of Swiss nature. ⸻ 🗺️ Where is Iseltwald and how to get there? Iseltwald is a small village with around 400 residents in the heart of the Bernese Alps. 🚗 By car: About 30 minutes from Interlaken via a scenic road along Lake Brienz. 🚌 By public transport: Train to Interlaken, then a bus or short taxi ride along the lake. The journey passes mountain slopes, forests, and turquoise waters — perfect for a Switzerland day trip or quiet getaway. ⸻ 🏡 Traditional houses and Alpine chalets Iseltwald is famous for its classic Swiss chalets with massive wooden beams, deep eaves, and carved balconies filled with colorful flowers. Many buildings date back to the 19th century and are meticulously preserved. Wood carvings, family crests, deer, and spruce branches decorate the balconies, making every Swiss chalet a piece of art. Walking through narrow streets with flower-filled windows gives the feeling of a real Swiss fairytale. ⸻ ⛴ Boat on Lake Brienz A small tourist boat sails on the lake, connecting Iseltwald with nearby scenic villages. It offers the best views of the Seeburg Castle, Lake Brienz, and the village peninsula. A small entrance fee preserves the pier’s charm and order. ⸻ 🏰 Seeburg Castle Seeburg Castle on the peninsula looks like it came straight from a storybook: white walls, pointed towers, and reflections in the lake. It once belonged to an evangelical organization and is now privately owned. Visitors cannot enter, but the view from the shore is breathtaking, especially at sunset when the castle glows in golden light. ⸻ 🚶‍♂️ Walks, hiking trails, and waterfalls From the village, scenic hiking trails lead along the lake and into the mountains. One of the most beautiful trails leads to the Giessbach Waterfalls: • Cascading waterfalls drop 500 meters directly into Lake Brienz. • Trails pass through forests, streams, and rocks. • At the top, the historic Giessbach Hotel looks like it came out of a storybook. Along the trails, spot rare alpine plants, flowering meadows, wild goats, foxes, and alpine birds.
