Despite being the lowest-ranked team heading into the 2019 CECAFA Cup, Eritrea beat East African rivals like Burundi, Djibouti, and Kenya en route to the final, which constituted their best ever performance in Africa's oldest football tournament. It was a historic achievement - but Eritrea's men's team haven't played a competitive fixture since that tournament, or a game of any description in more than four years.
