The French New Wave has given us a wealth of stunning cinematic masterpieces. I'd like to highlight one of the most dazzling gems in this magnificent collection. Often, films "age poorly"—that is, they become noticeably less "good" over the years than we once thought. Other times, films "age well," meaning they age beautifully. Sometimes, films only become more beautiful with age, acquiring new facets and nuances, achieving true greatness. Rarely, films stare at us from somewhere in the future, as if mockingly waiting for us to finally grow up to them. And sometimes, films simply unfold before our eyes, right here and now—and therefore, there's nothing in them that needs to age. The film "Cleo from 5 to 7" is an hour and a half long. Its action lasts exactly an hour and a half—not from 5:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m., as promised, but from 5:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. In other words, we experience two hours, rich with emotion and meaning, in real time, alongside the main character. The film, shot in such a way that it is itself a product of its creators' inspiration, a perpetual fountain of ideas, discoveries, and original solutions, also takes place right here and now. Therefore, the word "old age" is completely inapplicable to it—it exists as if in another reality. Like Cleo herself—forever young, forever beautiful, forever alive... We'll see documentary footage of Parisian streets—artfully and seamlessly woven into the fabric of the film. In one episode, we'll see the genuine, charming, and mega-talented Michel Legrand—he essentially plays himself. In another episode, we'll see a cameo, stylized like a silent film, from the young and beautiful Jean-Luc Godard and Anna Karina, who were in the midst of their legendary romance during filming. We'll see an endless supply of pure cinematic delights and delights. The main thing is that we'll laugh and we'll cry, even after watching it for the fifth time. And when the film ends, we'll think about it for a long time, we'll be aware of our mortality for a long time, and because of that, we'll feel even more alive right now. Like Cleo, yes, exactly... I envy those who haven't seen this film yet. I'm happy for those who, like me, will have a reason to rewatch it. There are some things that never age.
