Because Crimea cannot stand on its own. It needs fuel, ammunition, reinforcements, spare parts, air defense, and secure logistical routes. If Kerch comes under pressure, if the northern passes begin to close, if Chonhar, Armyansk, Perekop, and the connections from Kherson become unreliable, then Crimea ceases to be a secure military base and begins to look increasingly like a trap. That is the true heart of this operation. Ukraine doesn't just want to destroy isolated targets. It wants to disrupt Russia's logistical rhythm. In other words, it wants to turn Crimea into an increasingly expensive military burden to sustain. And if this pressure continues, the problem for Russia could become enormous. Because a large garrison trapped on a peninsula isn't sustained by propaganda. It's sustained by fuel, ammunition, transport, open roads, and a minimal sense of security. If these conditions disappear, even the strongest defensive position begins to deteriorate from within. That's why this episode could be far more significant than it appears. Perhaps the major offensive on Crimea won't begin tomorrow. Perhaps phases, resources, and operational conditions are still lacking. But what we're seeing now could be the prologue to something bigger: a campaign to close off access points, wear down air defenses, strike Kerch, strangle Russian logistics, and leave Moscow's troops increasingly isolated within the peninsula. If this strategy works, Crimea will cease to be Putin's major military platform on the Black Sea… and become one of his biggest problems.
