Named after an eminent economist & Ex central Government Minister, Honorable Late Shri NKP Salve, NKP Salve Institute of Medical Sciences & Research Centre and Lata  Mangeshkar Hospital, Nagpur  was  established in  1990, at Sitabuldi with a commitment to health for all. The Institute was initially set up in Sitabuldi and was then shifted to Digdoh Hills, Hingna Road. Over the years it has grown as one of the premier medical institutes of the country offering medical education of high standard and quality health care. Together with other professional team members in place for the smooth running, this medical institution has seen sustained growth. The institution had started off with an aim to fill in the additional need of medical education in the region and to be able to deliver health services to patients in and around central India. The institution is spread over 68 acres of land on the periphery of the city, and sits amidst open natural settings. From a single storey structure, it now annexes groups of buildings housing the varied departments. Recognized by the NMC (National Medical Commission), it has an intake of 200 UG seats. It was earlier affiliated to Nagpur University but is now affiliated to Maharashtra University of Health Sciences, Nashik. Having started with under graduate courses it has in due time attained recognition for PG courses in all subjects and also MCh, PhD, Fellowships in certain subjects. Additional courses are in the offering to generate qualified manpower in requisite specialties and other paramedical subjects that are needed. The Pre and Para clinical departments are located in the spacious double storied building complex. The clinical departments are housed in the spacious well equipped hospital adjoining the college. The hospital is 1040 bedded and is attached to the college. All the departments, including preclinical and clinical, are fully equipped as per the norms laid down by NMC. The lecture halls are well furnished with availability of audio visual aids (Smart Boards & Touch Boards) in each of them. The college auditorium ‘ Matoshree’ has a hall of seating capacity 1000. Additionally the hospital is equipped with modern facilities and diagnostic procedures including CT Scan, MRI, DSA, Mammography, Endoscopy. The Blood Centre of NKP SIMS & RC and LMH is the only such facility in Hingna area providing 24 x 7 services to the rural population for blood and blood components. Qualified, experienced and dedicated faculties are the pride of the institution. Students are admitted through National Entrance Test of Government (NEET). Every year sees sincere, goal oriented and keen youngsters joining to excel in academics with distinctions, awards and medals. They participate in extracurricular activities that include sports, cultural fests, debate, drama, art and music. The institution turns them into all-round professionals who are always ready to utilize their skills for the under privileged. Faculty and students are encouraged to present their work in conferences and workshops during the academic session. Most of the research papers are published in indexed journals of national and international repute. The institute has hosted several national conferences, workshops and CMEs.
