The Story of Ireland's Fish n' Chips
In this programme, we explore the surprising link between the tiny Italian village of Casalattico and Ireland’s beloved fish and chip shops. Colm Flynn uncovers the history of Casalattico and the generations of Italians who were forced to leave in search of a better life — many of whom ended up making Ireland their home. With limited opportunities when they arrived, they turned to fishing and began opening fish and chip shops across the country. Today, those “chippers” are still there, firmly woven into the fabric of towns and cities all over Ireland.
