Granted U.S. citizenship in 1917, many Puerto Ricans migrated to the U.S. mainland, particularly during the mid-20th century, where they interacted and formed relationships with diverse ethnic and racial groups. Military service also brought Puerto Ricans into close contact with Americans from various backgrounds, leading to interracial and interethnic marriages. These relationships and marriages often produced offspring and many of them are famous people that are interwoven in mainstream American culture.
