Sea kayaking Waipu cove to Mangawhai

What an epic day on the water with Katrin, Tatjana, and Gereth. We launched from Waipu Cove and paddled one-way to Mangawhai, leaving a vehicle at the finish so we could simply enjoy the journey without having to turn back. The conditions couldn't have been more perfect. Bright sunshine, glassy water, and not a breath of wind made for effortless paddling. With the low tide exposing reefs and rock shelves along the coastline, we were treated to a completely different perspective of this stunning stretch of coast. One of the highlights was exploring the fascinating pancake-like rock formations sculpted by the ocean over countless years. We took our time, drifting and paddling at an easy pace, soaking in the scenery and appreciating every corner of the coastline. Nature put on a show for us as well. We discovered a seal colony resting on the rocks and were lucky enough to spot a magnificent eagle ray gliding gracefully beneath our kayaks through the crystal-clear water. Moments like these remind you just how special New Zealand's coastline can be. There was no rush all day—just four friends enjoying perfect paddling conditions, incredible wildlife encounters, and spectacular coastal scenery. From start to finish, it was one of those rare days when everything aligns: sunshine, calm seas, great company, and unforgettable experiences. An absolute gem of a paddle and a day we'll be talking about for a long time Lonely ocean / Music by Carsten using Suno
