TRIBUN-VIDEO.COM - United States President Donald Trump acknowledged that Iran still has the capability to launch an attack. Trump had previously stated that Tehran's military strength had weakened after being hit by a series of US military operations. "We still have to fight. They still have the capability, not much. They haven't won or anything, but they still have the capability. They can still shoot," Trump said at the Faith and Freedom Coalition policy conference. Trump made the statement while speaking at the Faith and Freedom Coalition conference on Friday (June 27). Trump said that Iran is indeed no longer as strong as it once was. However, he said Tehran still has the capability to attack and its threat is not completely over. Trump even warned that Iran is still capable of launching attacks that could destabilize the region. On that occasion, Trump also mentioned an incident that occurred near the Strait of Hormuz. According to Trump, Iran launched four drones at a ship passing through the area. He claimed that US forces successfully intercepted three of the drones before they reached their target. However, one drone reportedly escaped and struck the ship, causing damage. Several US officials also provided similar accounts. They stated that four drones were launched in one direction toward commercial vessels near the Strait of Hormuz. Reports indicate that the targeted vessel was the Singapore-flagged M/V Ever Lovely. The ship reportedly suffered minor damage, but no casualties were reported. However, Iran has not yet admitted responsibility for the incident. Tehran only emphasized that the Strait of Hormuz is under its control and all ships are required to follow established regulations. Iran has also repeatedly warned foreign vessels against navigating shipping lanes unapproved by its government. The Persian Gulf Straits Authority (PGSA) even stated that ships sailing outside the official routes would not receive safe passage or insurance coverage. This statement demonstrates Iran's continued efforts to strengthen its control over the Strait of Hormuz, a strategic route for global energy trade. The incident reportedly began with an alleged Iranian drone attack on a cargo ship in the Strait of Hormuz. The US then retaliated with airstrikes, which it claimed targeted several Iranian military facilities in the area. Previously, Iran and the US signed a ceasefire memorandum of understanding on June 17, 2026. This agreement was then followed by the first round of negotiations in Switzerland to discuss the possibility of reaching a more permanent peace agreement. However, mutual accusations of violations and escalating tensions in the Strait of Hormuz have again called into question the future of the agreement.
