Alexander Glazunov (1865 - 1936) - Piano Sonata No. 1 in B-flat minor, Op. 74 (1901) I. Allegro moderato [0:00] II. Andante [9:50] III. Finale. Allegro scherzando [18:05] Massimiliano Damerini, piano (1991) Alexander Glazunov's Piano Sonata No. 1 is in three movements and typically lasts around 25 minutes. The sonata was completed in 1901 and dedicated to the pianist Nadezha Rimskaya-Korsakova, the wife of Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov, Glazunov's teacher and mentor. It opens with a turbulent first movement, full of rich chromatic harmony and virtuosic piano figurations. The second movement is in F-sharp major and features a beautiful theme that is reiterated in many variations throughout the movement. The Finale, in B-flat major, is an exciting and glimmering perpetuum mobile that provides a satisfying conclusion to the sonata. Original audio:    • A. Glazunov - Piano Sonata No. 1 in B Flat...
