Christian Ward on the Power of Comics | UNDER THE INFLUENCE

He might be a DC guy, but he is not immune to the joys of Marvel. Christian Ward is a comic magician. Both his writing and art are an ever-expanding mix of mathematical precision and the freedom only visual artists can achieve. With his almost pencil-like shapes, he created the best Black Bolt story ever told for Marvel, as well as the Grant Morrison-evocative Batman: City of Madness for DC. His indie works, like DSTLRY’s nightmarish current Spectregraph and the sci-fi opera retelling of The Odyssey in Image Comics’ ODY-C, are perfect examples of his ambition and scope. While browsing the shelves at Walt’s Comic Shop, Ward picked three comics that literally changed his life. You cannot ask for a better reason to pick comics than that.
