David Hammons: Day's End | Highlights from the Dedication Ceremony

David Hammons’s Day’s End takes its inspiration from artist Gordon Matta- Clark’s 1975 work of the same name, in which Matta-Clark dramatically cut five monumental openings into an abandoned shed on Pier 52. Hammons’s artwork is an open structure that precisely follows the outline, dimensions, and location of the original shed. Like Matta-Clark’s work, it memorializes the ever-changing history of New York and offers an extraordinary place to experience the waterfront. Day’s End was realized by the Whitney Museum of American Art in collaboration with the Hudson River Park Trust. Learn more at https://whitney.org/exhibitions/david....
