Its name is so well-known that it has almost become synonymous with "bustling tourism." However, beyond the labels of prosperity and crowds, Lukang is simply where I grew up. My grandfather riding his motorcycle from Fuxing just to see me, my grandmother taking me to the local market for Flour Vermicelli Thick Soup (Mee Sua Hoo), or walking the pebble reflexology paths at Luojin Elementary School—these are the memories that belong uniquely to me. I believe my passion for Chinese literature was sparked right here in Lukang. Back in middle school, I loved writing poetry; the scenery of the South Land God Temple or the winding curves of the Nine-Turns Lane were enough to inspire my writing. I have always cherished the local culture and the warmth of the people here. So, when we decided to film "Learning Chinese in Taiwan," Lukang was the first place that came to mind. I would like to express my deepest gratitude to the Highest Good Education Foundation and the NCKU Center for Sinology Research and Development for giving me the opportunity to return to my hometown for this project.
