Latin Mass Society Faith & Culture Conference: His Eminence Raymond Cardinal Burke

His Eminence used his keynote address at The Latin Mass Society's Faith & Culture Conference to examine the relationship between Divine Law and Divine Worship. In a theologically rich talk, he spoke of the Jus Divinum - the proper ordering of the relationship between God and man - as the Divine Law inscribed by God upon man's heart. He commented: "the sense of the relationship between the Jus Divinum and the Sacred Liturgy has been lost from liturgical discussion … there has been an exaggerated focus on the human aspect of the Sacred Liturgy which has left out the essence of the Sacred Liturgy as God's encounter with us through sacramental signs". During questions following the talk, the Cardinal called for an end to the “persecution from within the Church” of Catholics who attend the Traditional Latin Mass. “It is my hope that he will put an end to the persecution of the faithful in the Church who desire to worship God according to the more ancient usage of the Roman rite.” “I certainly have already had occasion to express that to the Holy Father.
