John Marston Was Living a Dead Man's Life
Most people watch Red Dead Redemption 2 and call John Marston the lucky one — the survivor Arthur's death bought a happy ending for. The ranch, the wife, the son, the honest life. I want to argue he never got a happy ending at all. What John got was Arthur's unfinished homework. He spent the entire epilogue performing a redemption that was Arthur's idea, not his — and Red Dead Redemption 1 isn't a separate tragedy. It's the bill arriving. Part 2 in the series.
