Eviç Taksim — Eric Ederer

A little "makam liberation" on an experimental no-soundhole ud, using the makam Eviç, with brief modulations to Neva/Yegâh, Beste Isfahan (barely), and Bestenigâr makam-s. What I learned here was what a difference it makes to use the tonic as the lowest-pitch drone — very often in this makam (and related ones such as Irak, Segâh, Hüzzam, Müstear...), the tone a (5:4) major third below the tonic is used as the drone, making the tonic sound like a cheerful major third; here the interval between the true tonic and its dominant a (6:5) minor third higher gives Eviç a darker, pensive feel, and allows for more contrast when the Yegâh (± "just intonation mixolydian") comes in — it's good to learn a new way to do things!
