ATTR Amyloidosis - Behind The Mystery
Imagine having a rare, debilitating and fatal disease that’s passed down from generation to generation. It’s called hereditary ATTR amyloidosis. Its symptoms are similar to other conditions and ATTR amyloidosis patients are very often misdiagnosed. But because it’s a genetic disease, family history plays a crucial role. Third cousins, 44-year-old Dawn Gimbel-Myers and 42-year-old Christina Lindsey are impacted through six generations. They’re part of the fifth generation. Both women have a genetically positive diagnosis for the disease. But it is possible to have the genetic mutation and not develop the disease. And they’re doing everything in their power to arm themselves with education. Tune in to meet Dawn and Christina, and learn about symptoms, family connections and treatment options, in this Behind the Mystery: Rare & Genetic segment. The earlier the diagnosis, the better.
