Introduction to ICD-10 Coding
This animated video from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) explains the benefits of ICD-10 medical codes. Health care providers will start using ICD-10 instead of ICD-9 codes on October 1, 2015. ICD-10 expands on ICD-9 codes to reflect advances in medicine. So ICD-10 allows doctors to capture more details about their patients’ health conditions and hospital procedures. These details lead to a better record of a patient’s history. This in turn can lead to better care for patients across different providers and over time. To find out more about ICD-10, visit http://www.cms.gov/ICD10.
