Eugenia's first contact with alcohol happened at age 16, at school parties. Years later, already married and facing conflicts in her relationship, she realized she needed to drink more and more to keep up with her husband, who was also an alcoholic. What began seemingly harmlessly evolved into an addiction that affected every aspect of her life. Gradually, Eugenia began drinking in secret, carrying bottles in her purse, and could no longer perform daily activities without alcohol. Delusions, irritability, depression, and suffering that impacted the entire family followed. In this episode of Recuperação Viva (Recovery Alive), Eugenia shares how hospitalization marked the beginning of her recovery. The desire to stop her children's suffering was one of the main reasons that led her to seek help. During this journey, she found support in recovery groups, especially in the Associação Alcoolismo Feminino (Women's Alcoholism Association). As she herself says, to have a healthy life in every sense, she needed to avoid that first sip. One day at a time. Today, after more than 24 years of sobriety, Eugênia is a therapist specializing in chemical dependency and dedicates herself to helping other women facing alcoholism.
