Photographer Explains: Edward Steichen (1879 – 1973)

Like his contemporaries Alfred Stieglitz and Robert Demachy, Edward Steichen was an early photographer who was nonetheless quite modern in his conception of art, and of the world. In fact, Stieglitz called him “the greatest photographer that has ever lived” – largely due to photographs such as “The Pond – Moonlight”, “The Flatiron Building”, and his many portraits of famous artists.
