Das Verstärkeramt

The Wiedenbrück repeater station is a historically significant component of German telecommunications technology and exemplifies the expansion of the long-distance telephone network in the 20th century. ⸻ What is a repeater station? A repeater station was a technical facility of the German Reichspost (Imperial Post Office) and later the German Federal Post Office (Deutsche Bundespost) where telephone signals were: amplified, equalized, and monitored to enable their transmission over long distances with virtually no loss. Such stations were particularly necessary for long-distance cables (copper cables), as analog signals deteriorated significantly over distance. A heartfelt thank you goes to Mr. Wilhelm Blase. I was permitted to use a few images from his book ("On Telecommunications in Gütersloh, Rheda-Wiedenbrück and the Surrounding Area"). My thanks also go to Mr. Richard Kügeler from the Wiedenbrück Radio and Telephone Museum!
