Old Roots New Routes presents: Raquel Kurpershoek & Ensemble – Between Cordoba & Istanbul - premiere Fri 10 April 2026 | Amstelkerk, Amsterdam When she performs, her hands speak, a soul ignites. With an equally expressive voice, singer Raquel Kurpershoek-Jaldón creates an emotional charge that touches the heart. Born in Amsterdam and raised in Andalusia, she unites two musical cultures where Mediterranean music—especially flamenco—takes center stage. She graduated from Codarts Conservatory (Rotterdam, 2016) and has won various (inter)national awards, including 1st prize at the Prinses Christina Jazz Concours (2016) and the National Culture Prize of Spain (2024). Following the award-winning documentary Traslasierra (2020) and the album Mil Cosas (2021), she released Nizami(2022), setting the love poems of the Persian poet-philosopher Nizami Ganjavi to music. Now, Kurpershoek embarks on a new project premiering during Old Roots New Routes.
