Amouage Interlude Black Iris – Beautiful, Powerful… But Not for Me

Amouage Interlude Black Iris was released in 2020 as a flanker to the original Interlude Man, with perfumer Pierre Negrin returning to reinterpret the famous Amouage DNA. In this no-hype review, I give my first impressions of Interlude Black Iris from a sample, looking at how it compares conceptually with the original Interlude, whether the iris successfully replaces the famous oregano note, and how the fragrance performs on paper over several hours. To my nose, this is a dry, dusty blue iris wrapped around Amouage’s signature incense and frankincense character, with an amberwood base, cedar, labdanum and vanilla adding structure underneath. It feels powerful, polished and genuinely unisex. I score it highly, but I also explain why I probably won’t be buying a bottle. Have you tried Amouage Interlude Black Iris?
